Bailey Duke Artist Statement

When the 13 Lines show was presented to the Advanced Studio class of the late Michael Galbreth, my immediate thought was on the number 13. I searched for mediums that would allow me to express a puzzle-like theme and the obstacle of discovery. With the campus as our canvas my thoughts went to the library and using library books as my medium.
On November 13th, my piece will be on display in front of the front desk of the 2nd floor of the library contained within the bookshelf next to the Starbucks. The shelf is hinted by a 13 lines ribbon and on display for all to interact with and discover the hidden content of the piece.
Since the show has been completed, the hidden text was a message using the first letter of the title of every book. This spelled out “www 13lines org”
